Should I report to the police and enough?

The aim of Enough is deterrence not immediate criminal justice. If you want to report to the police or a SARC, you should go there first and get a full forensic examination.

You can report with enough afterwards, and access our recovery content. If you report and self-test with Enough, you can pass the information onto the police later (including a frozen portion of DNA) for them to use in your case.

Will Enough DNA results be admissible in court?

Yes, it can be.

DNA evidence is only relevant, and will only be submitted to a court, if contact with a particular individual and location are disputed

If the survivor will testify that the DNA sample was correctly collected following the instructions to avoid contamination; then an Enough DNA sample can be admissible*

Not even police DNA is absolutely 100% guaranteed admissible in court, neither is an Enough sample.

Enough’s DNA kit was developed, and is produced by, the same people that develop and produce kits for the British police Just like the police or a SARC, it can be, but ultimately the judge will decide.

Will the police take my results seriously?

The police know that most survivors are not reporting to them. The police will consider any relevant information for a case.

What about false allegations?

Perpetrators names are not publicized by enough. They are private to the survivor, and no allegation can be made through the platform

False allegations are rare, less than 1% of rapes. A man is 10 times more likely to be raped than falsely accused.

Is enough about making money?

No. Enough is not for profit. We put all money made back into increasing access of kits to students and survivors.

Why is Enough selling kits?

Many people across the UK have requested kits. £20 is the lowest price we can provide them for to also cover the cost of lab testing.

Are enough kits available outside the UK?

Our kits are only currently available in the UK.

What is the kit?

A DNA swab, a water vial and instructions, for you to use discreetly and quickly

I ordered a kit online. When will it arrive?

Kits ordered before 2.00pm Mon-Fri will be posted first class on the same day, usually arriving the next day (Tuesdays to Saturdays).

Where can I use the kit?

You can take a sample from: Vagina, anus, vulva, mouth, skin. The best results are from liquid e.g. sperm/saliva, even if now dry.

Is the kit for all genders?

Yes. The kit is for all genders. Our kit instructions explain how to use the swab in different areas.

How long do the kits last?

You should get a new one every 4 years. There’s an expiry date on the outside of the swab.

What does it detect?

It shows the presence of someone else’s DNA in or on your body. It picks up semen, saliva or persistent touch (sweat). It works even with a condom because of persistent touch.

What if I’ve showered?

You can still use it. Some samples can be taken up to 7 days after. Read the user guide for more info.

Where should I keep the kit before I use it?

Anywhere that will be room temp or below (max 22°C.)

How is this different to what exists today?

DNA testing for rape is currently only possible at the police or a sexual assault referral centre (SARC). The examination is far more extensive and is stronger forensically, but we exist because many want a way of testing at home simply and discreetly.

My test results haven’t come yet?

Make a note of the date you posted it. If you have not heard back within 5 working days please email tom@myenough.com.

Who does the testing?

Our partner is a leading UK lab.

How long do the results take to come?

1 working day after the lab receives your sample. Your sample will be delivered to the lab overnight as long as you are before the last collection.

What happens to my sample after testing?

We freeze half the sample before testing. This means it can be passed on to the police (if you ever want to). After testing the other half, we keep it unless you tell us otherwise.

How will I get the results?

We’ll send you an email to tell you when your results are available on your account.

Who can see the results?

The results belong to you and no one else.

What do my results mean?

The test results will show how many different DNA profiles have been detected, and what gender they are. It is possible that the first test may not detect male DNA, and a second test will be required. If so, we will inform you of that and when that test is complete

If only one DNA profile is found on my sample, does that mean nothing happened?

No. There are many reasons why a sample may not show a second profile. Over time, DNA naturally degrades, and can be weaker if a form of protection was used. The absence of a secondary profile cannot be assumed to be evidence that nothing happened.

To help create prevention and deterrence. We verify every single one before posting. We do not allow any names or swear words.

What does recovery involve?

Enough provides therapy style videos on YouTube, Instagram, and Tik Tok, an online community/forum, and guides for friends and family. They are free.

Does enough have a therapist?

We have a Clinical Lead, Dr Maisie. She creates the videos, manages the community and runs livestreams but she does not do 1 on 1 sessions. Our recovery services are free of charge and that can’t extend to 1 on 1 conversations. We have information on other places where you can get that support on our website.
