Rape of school and University age women is at epidemic proportions. A woman has a 4% chance of being raped each year at University. 90% will suffer trauma symptoms and 20% will suffer long term PTSD, which increases mortality risk by 40% a year

Enough wishes to run 3 City wide evaluation pilots of the programme over 3 years. Effective, affordable, and scalable prevention must become our priority

The Government and many other organisations, including Enough, are committed to innovating radical new approaches and reduce rape by 50% in 10 years. Universities and Schools will be the major arenas where these approaches have to be developed and tested.

Key Questions asked by Universities

Does Enough really create deterrence and prevent rape?

Enough is based on many previous successful programmes for behaviour change, including drink driving, seat belt wearing and smoking.

70% of Students are already saying that they think Enough is preventing rape in Bristol. This needs to be confirmed by long terms studies (for which we have proposals). 90% of Perpetrators are now aware of the presence of Enough on campus, its reporting platform, its extraordinary social media reach and the presence of thousands of kits; they are aware through the enormous level of conversations we have sparked; they are aware that perpetrators are being named to the platform, and they will be aware that perpetrator DNA is being collected. Students have told us that whether or not this is used in court, the thought of your DNA being held on file is a threat.

In the case of drink driving, the existence and possible use of breathalysers deterred far many more people than those that were actually brethalysed and then convicted.

Do you always signpost to the Police and NHS?

Yes. We consulted carefully before launch and we always tell survivors to go to the police or a SARC first if they want to. There is no evidence that we are diverting survivors from those resources. Enough is only for people (about 85%) that don’t choose to go there.

Is it legal to collect DNA from your own body?

Yes. It is anyone’s right to report this way and to collect, analyse, and store DNA samples from their own body. The forensic regulator is satisfied.

Can Enough DNA evidence be admissible?

Yes it can be. In situations where DNA evidence is relevant to the case, and where a survivor will testify that they collected the sample properly, without contamination, then it can be admissible. See full KC opinion here.

How does Enough work with Universities?

Enough is quick and simple to implement at new Universities
Enough is student led on campus. Students volunteer and work free as ambassadors to introduce Enough to students, distribute kits, set up collaborations with student clubs and societies and safe spaces in and around campus, (Cafes, Bars, Resturants, Clubs etc) and local businesses. Local partners pay for and distribute kits to their customers and employees, and run events
Students create and post a huge amount of social media
Student survivors report at high levels and create deterrence
Universities do not need to integrate any software or reporting processes
Universities and Students Unions do not need to actively endorse Enough and no ongoing interaction is required
Enough is a non profit, and is extremely lean and cost effective.
Kits are very low cost, inclusive of testing, reporting platform, marketing, and recovery resources
Kits should be distributed equivalent to c.30% of the student population each year

The Top 100 Universities in the UK could be funded for £7.5m per year

How can Enough be funded?

Enough is a non profit CIC, with a Foundation being registered with the charity commission

Enough has so far been funded by Philanthropists and the friends and family of Katie & Tom, the co-founders

Enough is in discussion with major Foundations to fund 3 significant City pilots for 3 years; Bristol, and 2 others.

Government agencies and departments are aware of, and interacting with Enough; and with the help of experts representing key stakeholders, Enough is developing evaluation pilot proposals for discussion.

Enough could be funded directly by Universities. Our costs are c.3% of an average welfare budget. Enough will be able to accept charitable donations when its own foundation’s registration is complete; eg from Universities’ own fund raising networks
